AutoRecover File Deletion

Postby 1981 » 11 Oct 2015, 23:05

I was working on a drawing and Black Ink crashed, but it came back where I was thanks to AutoRecover. Past that I was just hitting the "save" function. It crashed a couple more times, but I didn't think anything of it (I think I was just adjusting a brush in the controller whenever it happened).

Unfortunately, nothing I did was saved as a normal file, not once. The AutoRecover cache is empty, so I've lost hours of work. I'll have to do it all over again as waiting for a response would be a further waste of my time when I can easily start over, but I'd like to know if there is way to retrieve my file from here on out.

If there's a bug that makes AutoRecover not save a file to its original location once Black Ink opens again, I'd like to know this so I can manage my files better in the future.

First : if Black Ink crash please don't forget to send us your crash report it's really important for us to fix the problem in the next version.

Second : :desperate: Sorry for that but you found a problem in how the recovery system works. Because unfortunately when you hit "Save" on the file recovered Black Ink only saved it again in the auto recover folder without prompting you for a new location ( chacke the new of the file in the Black Ink's caption bar )
And then when you quit Black Ink, the AutoRecover path is cleaned ( all file with the recover.bkd ) will be deleted..

The workaround is to be be careful and make a "Save As.." instead of a "Save" when you have recovered a file. We will made a fix for this wrong behavior in a next release.

Hi U2, is this fixed now?
You should carefully read this review of Testo-Max and you'll love it.

I think number of revisions to set by user and incremental saves of them will be easy to add and useful addition. It's my preferred type od autosave\backup and save my butt many times when I merged\deleted something and didn't noticed.

I want this feature too! I add your wish in our suggestion list :)

Otherwise with the next version of Black Ink autorecover will be fixed.
