Sketching over a reference picture

The main use for the image-based color mode is obviously to pick colors but here is a very simple trick to use it as an actual drawing reference:

Pick any brush you like, switch to image-based color and load a picture:

You can rotate and place it as you want in your canvas and adjust the opacity of the displayed source picture.

And here is the trick: in the "Color Shifting" tab, check enable and push the value slider all the way to the left. That will simply make any picked color black:

Then just draw over your picture:

Once you're done, be sure to uncheck the "enable" box in the color shifting tab or any color you use with that brush afterwards will be black too!

Nice tricks / workaround !
But the BlackInk's coder MUST implement a easier way to do it ....:desperate:

How do you add an image in to a Black Ink document? There aren't enough tools for this? :amazed:

Select a brush, in the color menu select "image-based color", then leftclick on the area on the right and select an image from your harddrive.

You can allways convert any image to .PNG (using other program) and open it on Black ink... just a litle more work :learn:

This is a just a workaround using current Black Ink's tools. When we'll be able to import a picture into the document as a real layer this will become outdated.

Thanks for this tip; it'll come in handy for making customised images for Christmas cards later in the year

Ah excellent! I was looking for a way to import a reference image the other day.

A bit of a long way around, but thanks a bunch
