A Blur/ Smudge tool doesn't seem to me like the right answer.

OP, did you mean that you want to start with a line and be able to convert it's brush to another one (Keeping the path, but swapping the brush). If not I'm sorry I was mistaken.

^ But that's what I want - to change a current stroke to use another brush without having to redo the stroke.
