Image size for posting to gallery

Hello, this is a total "newbie" question but hell, better safe than sorry. I'd like to post my first painting to the gallery, but wondering about the size. So the maximum size of the image can be like 256 kb? The image right now is like 11 Mb, made a JPEG out of it using photoshop but when about to post on the preview it looks small, blurry and terrible :X
Any andvice?

wrathh : the resizer isn't probaly perfect but don't post too large image file for the forum because it will failed.
Image up to 5000 pixel is right.
Anyway the forum doesn't host large image, use other service like deviant art, trello, etc..
