Anyone know how to do in-screen color mixing. I.e. mixing blacks and whites to get grays?

I'm not sure I understand.
Would you like to change the blending or the opacity of your black lines to make them gray over a white background?
Or is it something else?

I'm trying to better transition values through on screen mixing. If I'm using a dark gray for example and then use a lighter gray I's like to be able to overlap the colors to get the transitional value
