Hey guys I just wanted to report something that is saw happen tonight. I had the crash on png save happen tonight a couple times. By chance I reopened the program using the Force DX9 mode and when I tried resaving as png one last time it worked!
Might not work for you but for whatever reason it worked for me, might be a way around the issue for now.
